There's no point getting more inside 50's if you cannot put scoreboard pressure on the opponent.
Too often when the forwardline doesn't apply F50 pressure it rebounds faster than the speed of light and every team has a plan for quick rebound.....make it hard to get out of the F50 and there's your NEW defender.
I recon spend anything on getting a 100% bonafide forward line coach with credentials and we'll convert the inside 50's into premiership winning scores.

	Date: 2010-09-07

We definitely need mongrel/aggression brought back. Perhaps if Chris Scott misses out on the job at Port he might like to come across to get closer to the action for further senior jobs. Mark Ricciuto would be great as forwards coach. As much as I hate essendon with a passion (like we are talking I wanted to jump the fence and smash lloyd myself in rd 22 last year) Scott Lucas is very good in his game analysis on SEN and really knows his stuff in terms of forward structures and when to lead/hold your ground when presenting to the ball carrier. He would also be right up to speed with zones, forward presses etc.

Clarkson needs to stop the pseudo omissions/late reprieves and actually drop the likes of Sewell and Lewis to get the young bloods into the team.

Maybe Primus if he loses the Port Job and someone more experienced like Cameron, Scott (if not Primus) or one of Malthouses assistants.
Pick-ups over summer critical. Need someone strategic (maybe Laidley), someone who understands the science/importance of sports/conditioning and (most importantly) someone who can help fire them all up. The team at times does look a little content. We need someone who can get rid of any complacency built up since 08 win and help Clarko once again getting them playing with anger.

They battle manfully but as noted all of them are '3rd defenders' instead of key position backs. They need one more big body in there to strengthen it all up. Losing Croady prematurely has killed us.

Between Stratton gilham and gibbo, gilham should take the TALLEST forward like a ruckman or someone while gibbo takes the number one forward and Stratton takes number two. Throw out this idea of getting tarrant we don't bloody need him.

	Date: 2010-09-07

One of the main reasons our forwards play higher up the ground (and linger around the centre), and our mids dont kick goals, is the fact they zone back so much (in part) to assist clogging up our back half and giving our 190cm backs support.
I have no doubt a quality tall back who we can rely on one on one will give the backs (and mids) the confidence (and ability) to zone off more, allowing the mids to play further up the ground, and allowing the forward(s) to stay where they should.
We roll as a wave from too deep. We do need to sure up the back-line with a key tall we back in. While we're at it we need someone to break the lines on the way out-theres not enough run-but thats for another thread.

	Date: 2010-09-07

Mitch is extremely reliable. He can be relied on most weeks to rack up big stats and will almost certainly be tagged out of a game by Kane Cornes. He will run in circles and look backwards before going forwards but when he does, on that rare occasion, make a direct forward move, he can be brilliant.

Sam's game is not helped by AC's gameplan. It highlight's his deficiencies and prevents him (and others) from realising their potential.

Sam should go down as a great of the club when his day is done. Hopefully AC will allow him to return to his natural game and let him supply the likes of Cyril, Youngy and Silk with copious amounts of extracted footy.

Let Schoenmakers play next year, dont bring in a 30 year old that will keep the kid out of the side.

Next I would like the club to make a play for Nathan Djerrkura wants out from Cats. Is 21 has leg speed, great tackler, and uses the ball very well when he gets it. He has had a few injury issues, so long as he is over them he will add to the speed and defencive pressure in the forward line. Rioli Hooper and Djerrkura swapping on ball and in the forward line!

Matt Spanger from West Coast wants to come back to Victoria, maybe he could be a good fit for the backline? Is 22 194 cm, 93kg. Does not get the ball much but makes alot of spoils, tackles, and can play small and tall. Not sure about his body on body work? He could release Birchall to play wing? Or take over from Murphy (who Im not a fan of) or Gurera who seems to be lacking impact lately!

There are not may players on our list that we could part with, that other clubs would really chase. Ladson is 1 but would only want the guy traded if there was a good deal to be done.

Would like the club to use its draft picks on needs (after 1st rounder that should always be used on best tallent)

I rate quick decision making and quick hands but I doubt leg speed counts for much at all. The three dominant teams this year are Collingwood, Geelong and St Kilda. How many genuinely quick players do they have?

	Date: 2010-09-07

Completely agree with this assessment. I would like to see a bit more muscle but then I remember Michael Tuck who was the same size and build and also a slow developer. It was great to see X showing some aerial and goal kicking skills towards the end of the season. All he is lacking is the Tuck elbows. I am confident he will become a very complete footballer and will captain the club after Hodge retires.

	Date: 2010-09-07

The key to winning games is to kick more than the opposition. We could concede 140 points a game, if we were kicking 150 we'd still be winning. Yes we were outmarked a couple of times this year, but I don;t think it was endemic of our problems down back. We averaged 83 points against this year, but only 92 points for. With the forwards we have that should be over 100. If we can increase our average for above 100, we will win 16 or more games a year.

We are missing a stay at home lead up forward in the mould of Williams or Dowler. That's who i think we should strategise our team going forward next to drafting or promoting - maybe Lisle does this, I havent seen him, but maybe draft someone like McKinley who is a lazy footballer, but as a stay at home leading forward only he may be someone who would be a cheap option.

With Mathews one would would hope the message would be "start performing or piss off to Western Sydney".

All coaches eventually lose the playing group and that is why Mathews left Brisbane with a year to run on his contract. I thought that was an exceptionally honourable thing to do really reminiscent of the old values of the traditional Hawthorn of John Kennedy senior or Alan Jeans or even Dickson, and not the carpet bagging, self promoting crap we see under the Kennett regime*.

Anyway I would love to see Clarko walk becasue he has lost the players but it won't happen becasue he has already lost the players but he can't see it because Clarko is too close to the players and they to he. They have a an extremely unhealthy co-dependant relationship where they both facilitate and enable each others failings and then they have the utter gall to stick up for each other in the media in the face of perfectly legitimate criticism from our president.

I want to see a new coach come in a put some friggin' discipline into this group and cut out all of this gen Y era nonsense crap that has crept into the game due entirely to slack and indulgent coaches!

The first discipline they can adopt is learning to kick properly! None of this swinging the leg across the body rubbish, or dribbling the ball through the goals when dead in front, or kicking with the outside of the foot when in front, or kicking square to goal when the goal mouth is wide open.

Also they can learn how to slot a simple goal by actually practicing the skill, OMG what an inovatation!

They should be forced to practice proper goal kicking lining up from a range of angles and distances with a REAL PLAYERS GUARDING THE MARK rather than the running around and trying to kick the ball out of mid air or trying to slot the goals from impossible angles.

Also they could actually get some goal kicking experts to help the players out. FFS Peter Hudson offered to help out at the Main Event (jumper night) this year in front of all the coaches administrators and the board, "if he were asked". But then Clarko and his high performance coach Rath clearly know more about the art of goal kicking than the greatest goal kicker of all time Peter Hudson. The fact that Rath had Roughy running a short run up on a plank shows that whist attempting to straighten his run up was the correct thing to do, tolerating him swing his leg right across his body and having him kick of three or so steps shows that he has almost no understanding of the mechanics of kicking straight or of any principle of momentum or implulse. And after all of this remediatation he is still kicking at a 53% conversion rate.

Oh well none of this is going to happen while Clarko is around and I would be surprised to see him coach for a few more years yet until the 5 two 50 plan becomes 5 one 40 and the good old window is nailed up.

So its sweet dreams to all the Clarko critics and a few more years of the this lucklustre rubbish bottom of the eight and out in the first week seasons, until the board wakes up and then it will be to late for Hodgey, Mitchell et al. as time takes it inevitable toll.

C'est le footy!

Note:

* For example selling the club off to Tasmiania, "More games to Tassie? why sure, how many do want?", or building a pokie palace to fleece the nouveau bogans of the west "well it sure worked a treat when I was premier", and lets not investigate the the disconnect, the cognitive dissonance between his rabid promotion of the gambling plague, pokies everywhere and the casino, as premier and his work as Chairman of Beyond Blue.

	Date: 2010-09-06

Luv the way he goes about it, hard and agressive, and one day one of those marks will stick.
Unfortunately does go MIA at times, but isn't the only small forward that can be said of.
Keep unless something comes along way over the odds. Especially if we lose Brown need some of those hard nuts.

You know the standard the Hawk's future is so bright I have to wear shades type of thing!

Have a great holiday.

Cheers.
